MERRY X-MASS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR 2025

Message from the Director

Flashing back to many years ago I feel a happy person seeing how things are unfolding positively. Something that started as a dream is no longer a dream but the reality. Every year with its new ideas and development, though it has not been easy.

I take this opportunity to thank all the sponsors who have been supporting the school, teacher’s learners and the parents. It is through cooperation from all of you that we are able to achieve the entire milestone. God bless you all.

When Rosemary and Jim visited our country, we looked at stability of the school in the future and persuaded them that we need to start a senior school since some of our students are missing school due to the distance of good schools and the cost of boarding schools. We unanimously agreed that we would start construction of a new wing of senior school.

I want to thank friend s in the UK led by Rosemary and Jim who I believe had to tighten their belt to enable this to happen.

Allow me to report that we managed to construct three classes, which will be used in the year 2026, and we are looking forward to building more classes once funds are available.

Once more thank you so much UK friends and partners led by Rosemary and Jim.

The year has not only be fruitful but also hopeful, our first class of Junior secondary have sat for their national exam and we have just received some excellent results.

Our pupils continue to not only succeed in academics but also in co-curricular activities, our school was able to represent the coastal region in handball, and we are grateful for their stellar.

Next year we are looking forward to admitting our first learner in the senior school

Allow me to wish you Merry Christmas and happy New Year 2026 full of success and Gods blessings

TRANSPORT

The school transport programme plays a central role in supporting learner access and punctuality to and from school. The service operates reliably from Monday to Friday, ensuring that students are conveyed to and from school in a safe, orderly, and timely manner. The addition of a 51-seater bus alongside a 14-seater van has significantly expanded our transport capacity, leading to increased enrolment from wider catchment areas and enabling more families to access our educational services with ease.

SPORTS DEPARTMENT

At Emley sports thrives as a key pillar of learner co-curricular and physical development throughout the year. Through active participation in the Kenya Private Schools Association (KPSA) ball games competitions 2025, our learners demonstrated outstanding discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship. A major highlight of the year was the commendable performance of the handball team, which advanced to the regional level and proudly represented the school.

Both primary and junior school teams took part in various sporting disciplines, offering learners valuable opportunities to showcase and refine their talents. Regular and systematic training sessions, supported by modern sports equipment and dedicated trainers, ensured continuous growth in physical fitness, resilience, and collaborative skills.

The school remains grateful for the unwavering support from our partners in the United Kingdom, whose contribution has played a meaningful role in strengthening our sports programme. We really appreciate for the football uniforms we received this year. As we close the year, we celebrate the achievements made and look forward to nurturing even greater sporting excellence and school spirit in the year ahead.

MUSIC AND DRAMA DEPARTMENT

The Music and Drama Department recorded a vibrant and fulfilling year marked by artistic growth, confidence, and cultural appreciation among our learners. Throughout the year, students actively engaged in a wide range of musical and dramatic activities, excelling in school-based showcases as well as performances beyond the school community. Their consistency, passion, and dedication were evident in every stage appearance and presentation.

Through well-organized programmes, both within and outside the school, learners were provided with continuous opportunities to explore and refine their creative talents. The department remained resilient in the face of challenges, ensuring that artistic expression remained uninterrupted and inclusive for all participants.

The success achieved would not have been possible without the generous support of our patrons, sponsors, and the steadfast guidance of the school management. NURSERY SECTION

This year marked an exciting milestone at Emley Education Centre with the introduction of the Daycare Class, a programme thoughtfully designed to nurture our youngest learners at the very start of their educational journey. Anchored in the school’s mission and vision, the class provides a warm, secure, and stimulating environment where children are encouraged to discover, explore, and enjoy learning through play and play things.

The Daycare Class adopts a balanced approach that blends guided instruction with play-based experiences. Learners engage in a variety of activities that support early development, including creative arts, storytelling, sensory play, and interactive games. Outdoor sessions such as racing, rope skipping, and exploratory play further enhance physical coordination, social interaction, and confidence.

Through carefully planned indoor and outdoor activities, children develop foundational skills in communication, creativity, and cooperation while building a natural curiosity for learning. The programme is structured to ensure a smooth and confident transition into primary education, equipping learners with the skills and self-assurance needed for the next stage of schooling.

We sincerely appreciate the trust and partnership of our parents, whose support continues to shape the success of this new initiative. Together, we are laying strong foundations for lifelong learning and a promising future.

THE FUN ZONE

WHERE SPIRIT MEETS SMILES

The Forgetful Husband

A wife asked her husband, “Why do you always forget our anniversary?”

The husband smiled and said, “I never forget—it’s just that I like to celebrate it every day in my own special way.”

The wife rolled her eyes, “Really? And what was yesterday’s special way?”

He proudly said, “Oh, I forgot again!”

The Clever Exam Trick

During a math exam, a student raised his hand.

The teacher asked, “Yes, what is it?”

The student said, “I forgot my pencil.”

The teacher gave him one, but the student started writing with a crayon instead.

The teacher frowned, “Why not use the pencil?”

The student smiled, “Oh, I wanted my answers to be colorful!”

The Clever Crow and the Cheese

A crow found a big, delicious piece of cheese and flew to a branch to eat it.

Just then, a hungry fox appeared and said, “Give me some cheese, or I’ll… uh… stare at you really hard!”

The crow thought fast and said, “Let’s be fair. I’ll cut it in two, and you pick first!”

The fox, greedy, chose the bigger piece. The crow took the smaller piece—but as soon as the fox looked away, the clever crow tossed his piece into the air, grabbed the bigger piece with his claws, and flew off! The fox was left staring at the sky, shouting, “Hey! That wasn’t fair!”

The crow laughed so hard he almost dropped the cheese.

Message from Rosemary Donnan

Jim and I arrived at the school in March along with 2 suitcases of toys for the baby class and another suitcase full of Sports t shirts and shorts. As usual we were stopped at customs and Harrison had to negotiate our release ! We did not take spectacles this year because of previous difficulties at customs.

We were delighted to visit the new baby class where I saw the toys in good use and I read a few story books I had taken out with me. Along with the indoor toys the children now have swings and a lovely climbing and slide set up.

Jim did his usual blood pressure checked while I observed a science lesson using microscopes or rather one microscope. I noted they need more next year. The computer lesson I observed left me amazed at how clever the children were at developing short animations. They seem to love this subject. I am so happy we invested in good lap tops although they do need one each eventually for future exams.

The final lesson I observed was home crafts and the children were keen to show me their sewing machine skills. In the end I showed them how to make neat seams. I also took a lesson in Loom knitting and cross stitch.

We as usual were busy erecting mosquito nets and visited all the new sponsored children at home. That was when secondary school transition was discussed. We have known for many years that many children never complete secondary education due to the high costs. Most good schools are up country where the children have to board. They also have to travel large distances to and from school 6 times a year.

The parents asked if we could build a secondary school next to the Junior High School which would only be boarding for children living a long distance away. We discussed this with Harrison and realized he had wanted this for a long time but was afraid of the cost.

We agreed to do our best to build enough classrooms for the secondary School to start in January 2026.

I am pleased to report all inspections were passed and the first intake started last week. I will put photos on the web site in the next few weeks at emleyafricanschools.co.uk.

On a sad note I must announce the death of a very dear teacher Madam Rose. She taught in the primary Section for 15 years. Such dedication is very rare and she was loved by all. She often helped me when I was teaching sewing with the children and to reward her long and dedicated service I had bought her some earrings. Unfortunately she became very ill very shortly after we left Kenya. May she Rest in Peace and we all send condolences to the family.
