Message from school Chairman

Mr. Joseph Gathonga

I am much honored today to pass my regards as we mark the final days of our academic year 2022. It is truly an achievement to be part of the Emley fraternity. The year has been great despite many challenges. Learning has been smooth. We thank God no cases of covid-19 infections have been reported in our school so I thank the school administration for maintaining the recommended protocols. School projects are ongoing as we prepare for the Junior Secondary admissions next year 2023. We are fully equipped and ready now that we have achieved the minimum requirements to run a junior secondary school. Thank you mama Rose and Jim for your tremendous support. Merry Christmas and a happy new year 2023.

Message from the Director

It is an honour and privileged to participate in this year’s Magazine. It has been a year full of challenges but we thank God the year ended well.

This year we were privileged to host Rosemary and Jim after three years due to the Covid period challenges.

We thank God that none of our students were affected after observing and following strict guidelines put in place by the government.

This year with the help of our UK supporters we were able to meet the guidelines put across for the registration of a Junior high school. The idea of a Junior high school came up after the ongoing change of the education system from the current 8-4-4 to 2-6-3-3 in simple terms it means 2 years in pre-primary,6years in primary,3 years in junior secondary and 3 years in senior secondary. After High school they join tertiary education as illustrated in the diagram here below

At Emley Education Centre we shall continue offering affordable and quality education up to junior high school but may be in future we shall engage and see if there is the possibility of having a senior secondary school I am happy to report that Emley Education Centre Junior High was opened by Rosemary and Jim as shown below.

Allow me to thank each and every one who has participated in seeing the school grow to this level. Thank you all.

Allow me to wish you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2023!

KITCHEN AND DINING HALL Department

Emley Education Centre kitchen and dining hall is fully functional having met the minimum requirements as required by the ministry of health in conjunction with that of education since 2021. The school deeply thanks the sponsors for their generosity and their good deeds to make it hygienic that now our pupils can have their meals in time in a conducive environment. The institution has hired qualified cooks who are fully committed to make sure that meals are well cooked, served in time and in enough portions. Learners enjoy their meals which are served as a balanced diet. We receive recommendations from our parents and guardians for the school’s wonderful service delivery something that has motivated more parents to hope for their kids to learn in EMLEY.

We now take this opportunity to appraise the school administration and management for their governance that has brought us this far.

We say to all Merry x-mas and a happy new year 2023.

SPORTS DESK

The mighty EMLEY sports hub takes this sole opportunity to commend everyone for continued and tremendous support towards games and sport activities. Through commitment and smart working in prayer, it has enabled us to prosper progressively in co-curriculum disciplines. (Ball games, athletics, music and drama)

In this year’s academic calendar, we did get an opportunity to participate in inter- school games with other schools within our county. We also had inter-class completions where we participated in field events like ball games and athletics and also indoor activities like music and drama which has helped learners mature their talents. Through our management and administration we managed to appreciate our learners who contested in the activities by giving them incentives to up their motivation. Sport really enables our kids develop physically, mentally and emotionally. We whole heartedly thank our friends Jim & Rose for their support and providing of sports equipment.

Lastly, we wish everyone a happy and merry x-mass and a prosperous happy new year 2023.

MUSIC AND DRAMA DEPARTMENT

The academic year of 2022 has been a blessing to our school. Among the very few schools who managed to qualify and contest in this year’s national music festivals was EMLEY EDUCATION CENTRE. We really did perform very well considering the performances that we put and the results that we got. In the classes that we performed we were ranked 3rd position Nationally. This splendid performance was received well by all the stakeholders that finally led us to being aired on live television in one of the giant TV stations (RAIA TV) in our region. Here the pupils showcased their items that they performed nationally to the other pupils and parents. From the heads of department Tr. Mwanakombo and Tr. Antony is an appreciation of the support from all those who were involved to make sure that the exercise was a success .We specifically thank our director for the support and pray that he continues with the same efforts and our friends from UK for making this dream valid. Happy x- mass and new year2023.

NURSERY SECTION

EMLEY has a well-established Nursery school since the year (2001).Our nursery section has two classes-pre-primaries one and two. The nursery section is attached to the primary section where they share most of the school facilities as one family. There are also qualified and competent teachers who guide the learners on routine day to day activities here in school. Some of the activities are out-door and others indoor. From the normal classroom learning pupils also get involved in activities like drawing, molding and weaving not forgetting some sport activities like ball games and athletics. The pupils also have small choirs where they learn some songs and singing games guided by our music teacher Mr. Antony Weru. This has helped the kids discover their best abilities which suit them well with the new curriculum of education that is competence based. Most of the learning is practical since the administration has provided us with enough learning resources and facilities. The kids interact freely because the school has provided a spacious playground. Finally the enrollment of pupils this year in the nursery section has risen tremendously due to our best learning facilities and the quality services that we offer. We thank God for the blessings he has granted us.

Have a joyful merry x-mas & New Year 2023.

BOARDING DEPARTMENT

EMLEY EDUCATION CENTRE MSAMBWENI has a boarding facility that meets the standard requirements to operate. It has been functional since 2015 when it was officially opened in the third term of that academic year. During that time the boarding facility was only meant for the classes seven and eight pupils. Today it accommodates even pupils from the other classes who come from far from where our school is located. This year the number of pupils boarding in school is fifty one (51). The number of boarding pupils keeps on changing as per the years but as Emley we appreciate the fact that our graph is steady. Our main objective to have the boarding facility was to save time for the candidate and pre-candidate pupils to be in school with their teachers to prepare adequately for their final examinations. We can now proudly say that the idea has brought positive performances in our national exams that tremendously have gone high something that has made our school competing with giant schools within our region. (County) We deeply thank the school management for the noble idea that has helped even our weakest our learners achieve more and prosper academically.

We pray that the almighty God grants you a merry Christmas and a happy new year 2023.

CHRISTIAN UNION DESK

Emley fraternity lives as a family in the doctrines of Christianity. Being practicing believers of Jesus Christ, through our Christian union group we have made sure that we meet always under the guidance of our able spiritual leader our pastor Mr. Jerumani who whole heartedly guides us and teaches us the word of the almighty God. This has been our norm for the longest time possible something that has made us grow spiritually and become strong believers of the word of God. Within the week we always meet for prayers and fellowship on assembly days on Monday and Fridays for our pastoral program lesson. As a result of our togetherness in faith, we have seen more souls grow in faith tremendously. Currently, the union is being headed by Mr. Cyrus, Mr. Salim. As Emley community we are thankful to almighty God for his love toward us and always ask that is with us forever. The union welcomes all believers of the holy word of God as its aim is to transform as many souls as possible and teach people to believe in the word of the almighty God.

Story telling time

By Abdul-Aziz kitwana

There was once a student who wanted to play a prank on one of his friends. He wrote a word I AM STUPID on a piece of paper and stuck it on his back. Then he told the rest of the class not to tell this poor kid about it. The last subject of the day was mathematics. The teacher came in and wrote a pretty challenging question on the board. Then she asked the class if anybody would like to try, but no one put up their hands except for the kid with the words I AM STUPID written on his back and as he was walking to the front everyone was pointing and mocking him. The teacher noticed this and the pupil managed to solve the question. And as he was about to walk back the teacher stopped him, clapped for him, praised him and said job well done. Then she peeled the paper from the boy and showed the whole class and said “Let me tell you something, in life many people will give you labels to stop you from your progress but as long as you don’t care what others think about you, you will achieve great things.”

FUN SPOT

A customer walked into my clothing shop and asked to see the pants that were advertised in the paper that day.” We don’t have an advert in the paper today,” I told her. She insisted I was wrong, so i got a copy of the paper and went through it, eventually landing on an advert for pants from another local store. Exasperated, the customer glared at me and said, “In my newspaper the ad was for this store!”-she left telling me THINK!

SAMANTHA AKOTH

Teaching is not for the sensitive souls. While reviewing future, past and present tenses in my English lesson, I posed a question: “I am beautiful is in which tense?” one student raised his hand and said. “PAST TENSE” Knowing my age in my shrinking skin I said to the boy YES but………………… it’s ok.

Message from Jim Donnan

We very much looked forward to our visit this year since Covid had imposed an almost 4 year gap. The addition of the Junior High School we knew about, having received regular updates and photos from the head teacher Harrison. However, visualizing exactly what additional land had been acquired, and what new buildings had been erected, was much more difficult.

Seeing all the changes was an eye opener. The new science lab was wonderful and had been described by one of the inspectors as one of the best he had ever seen!!

The craft and music facilities added to the breadth of subjects which will be taught in the J.H.S.

The dining room and kitchen we also saw for the first time with the state of the art cookers kindly donated by one of our sponsors.

We attended Graduation and were wonderfully entertained by all the pupils acting, singing and dancing. We were particularly impressed by the play highlighting Physical Abuse. It was shown in an entertaining way that such abuse is never appropriate, and certainly does not tackle the real behavioural issues which interfere with good relations between parents, children and siblings.

Rosemary’s speech in Kiswahili went down well and caused some amusement, and of course, was filmed in its entirety by the local TV crew who were there all day.

Rosemary and I did further eye testing clinics, having come from the UK with many pairs of refurbished reading glasses. We had several clinics locally but also in Kwale run by the local Rotary club. We gave out approximately 200 pairs of reading glasses at no cost to the recipient. We have always found that these eye clinics are particularly valuable, both for the people, but also for ourselves, judging by the delight shown and the thanks we receive.

We are very positive regarding the further development of the School and Junior High School and hope the local people realise how good it is going to be. Mr. Harrison, the teachers, pupils and parents, have our full support for an exciting future.

We look forward to a future visit.
