Message from the school Chairman
Mr. Joseph Gathonga
Hello EMLEY family? Allow me to sincerely pass my regards to everyone that has made our institution a success in the academic year 2023. It really has been an honor to be part of this great fraternity. In this academic year, I can confirm that in both academically and co-curricular has been excellent. This has been due to the fact that we have got qualified trained teachers who have been up to the task in both the curriculums. We had few challenges here and there but we thank God we managed to navigate through without harm. In terms of discipline our learners have done exemplary well that we never experienced any major indiscipline case. No major projects conducted this year other than equipping the new science labs with modern tools and equipment as required by the ministry of education and also purchasing stationery for the Junior high school. To our beloved friends Jim and mama Rosemary we say thank you for the helping heart and ask that God blesses you and your family.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year 2023.
Message from the Director
The year started well with transition of STD 5 to the new system of education commonly known as CBC curriculum. The school did not admit the number it anticipated in Grade 6 due to the change of the policy by the government. We admitted 30 students but as year progressed five more students joined to make the class full.
It has been a year full of challenges with the new government settling down with a lot of changes in the education system as well as micro economic changes. New taxes were introduced and the existing taxes were adjusted upwards this led changes in most of the prices of the basic commondities. Inflation has been going up but we are optimistic things will improve in future.
Despite the challenges the school has been doing well, this year we participated in ball games competition and as usual the school did very well. The school is planning to participate in music festival next year and the target is to reach national level.
We were also privileged to host our dear friends from UK Rosemary and Jim who have been with us for two weeks .They did a lot of activities in school and the community. They did two eye clinic one in a place called Mwanguda in kwale county a very remote area and the other with rotary club of kwale in Kwale town. They were also able to do some first aid lesson to my staff in school and mosquito nets to sponsored pupils.
The year has been relatively calm, challenging but at the end of the term we all celebrated with a momentous graduation ceremony conducted in the school for our graduating student.
We thank God for his protection the whole academic year and looking forward for a prosperous new year for the school.
Allow me to wish all readers of this magazine a prosperous 2024 full of positive achievements and happy Xmas.
God bless you all.

TRANSPORT
Emley education Centre takes its pride from an effective and successful transport system that operates fully from Monday to Friday within the school day. Since obtaining the new fifty one (51) seater bus and a fourteen (14) seater van in 2019, the number of admissions of new pupils joining our school has risen steadily compared to when the school had one small mini bus. Having a certified and working Junior Secondary and primary school we are all anticipating and being more optimistic that in the future we will have more pupils joining our school. We have two outstanding, licensed and experienced drivers who are up to task by ensuring that our kids travel safe to and from school daily.
To everyone who has given a helping hand to this success thank you for your generous actions. God’s blessings are amongst us.

With the dynamic environment in the lab our learners engage routinely in scientific exploration to revolutionize science to its core. Some of the key features of our new modern laboratory are: use of advanced microscopes, data acquisition systems and modern safety measures equipment.
Finally through the management allow me to thank everyone for the support that has brought us this far more so our supportive friends from the UK.
Have an enjoyable merry x-mass and wonderful new year 2024.

KITCHEN AND DINING HALL Department
As a school we are privileged to have a modernized kitchen and dining hall well equipped to accommodate more than a hundred learners at a time. The dining hall is fitted with stable modern tables and chairs where our leaners sit and enjoy their meals. As Emley we pay our sincere gratitude to our beloved sponsors for their cheerful generosity towards enabling us to have and enjoy such a facility. Since 2021 when the facility became fully operational our learners have been getting their food served in a hygienic environment. So far no single un- hygienic practice has been recorded in our school and we thank the almighty God for that. We also boast certified, able and knowledgeable cooks who ensure that meals are well cooked observing the guidelines from the ministry of health and served in right proportions at the right time. This has been a motivation to other parents to also want their kids learn from our school due to its exemplary services it offers.
The huge increase in cost of food has been very challenging over the past 2yrs. Food inflation is running at 50 to 70% for many items.
We wish you all merry x-mass and a happy new year 2024.

SPORTS DESK
From the EMLEY sports desk. We would like to confirm and report that games and sports activities have been a bee hive of activities throughout the academic year 2024. This year in the second term our school, with the help of the management, and courtesy of the Kenya private schools association (KPSA),we were privileged to participate in the inter-school games and sports activities up to county levels. Our teams are well equipped with modern tools and equipment that help us in nurturing our talents across different disciplines. To boost our morale and make sure that each pupil has been given an equal opportunity to showcase his/her ability in sport, we also participate in interclass sport activities within our school sometimes with our neighboring schools. Sport has really helped our kids grow and glow both physically and develop the virtue of team working.
To the management and administration not forgetting friends from the UK Jim and Rosemary we salute you.
May everyone enjoy a merry x-mass and a wonderful happy new year 2024

MUSIC AND DRAMA DEPARTMENT
From the drama and music department. We are proud to announce that this has been one of the pillars and backbone of our school . Through the years we have always performed exemplary well through the ranks to the national levels. We have competed nationally both in English and Kiswahili compositions and emerged among the best performing schools . We have well versed trainers within our team of qualified teachers who are up to the task whenever called upon. From the patrons we say thumbs up to all. On the same note in the academic year 2023 allow us to report that unfortunately we did not manage to participate in the festivals due to the fact that the music teacher had a severe injury. This either did not deter us from doing what we do best. We have been having competitions within ourselves and other neighboring schools to make sure that the ball keeps rolling as we prepare for the next contest where we are very optimistic that with the supreme support you have accorded us by providing us with the required facilities such as many new recorders. EMLEY will still remain top.
To our good and long term loving friends Jim and Rosemary we say thank you for the modern music equipment.
Merry x-mass and wonderful new year2024.

All children start their school careers with a sparkling and fertile mind. In EMLEY this has been ever since our motto. Here we believe in nurturing the young minds holistically by providing a safe learning environment to grow, learn and thrive. We offer indoor and outdoor activities to our learners like painting, drawing, rope skipping, ball games, singing games, modeling and weaving where learning and fun through play and play things go hand in hand. This routine practices have really helped the young minds develop and maximize their full potential that suits their curriculum of education that is competence based. We thank the management for providing us with substantial learning resources.

BOARDING DEPARTMENT
EMLEY EDUCATION CENTRE MSAMBWENI usually leads as others follow. We believe to be the ultimate leaders. Our school is blessed to have a boarding facility that meets the set minimum requirements to operate. Since 2015 when it was officially opened. It has been fully operational since then and currently the facility hosts 39 pupils from grade four to standard eight. Unlike in the past the past where boarding was meant for exam candidates the facility now accommodates learners from other classes who live a distance away. The main objective of the boarding facility still is to save time for the candidates to have more time in school with their teachers as they prepare adequately for their final national examinations. This noble idea has brought positive performances to our school since the establishment evident in the performances in the national exams.
We sincerely thank the school management for the generous support and pray that the almighty God grants you a merry Christmas and a happy new year 2024.

CHRISTIAN UNION DESK
Emley family adores and fully subscribe to the ideologies and doctrines of Christianity. This practice has been our norm and culture where we always all gather under the guidance of our spiritual leaders and share and practice the teachings of our savior Jesus Christ. Many souls have been saved and grown spiritually leading to many becoming staunch believers of teachings of the word of God through Jesus Christ. We also have routine pastoral programs every Friday where we meet with our learners for praise and worship under the guidance of our spiritual leaders. Currently, our Christian union is headed by Mr. Mwachuma and Mrs. Jane. As Emley we thank God for this unmeasured and immense love that He has granted us. We also thank our spiritual leaders for the devotion to make sure that we all grow spiritually as we all believe that nothing can exist without faith and believe in the word God through Jesus Christ.
Merry x-mass and happy New Year 2024

Story telling time

Recently while looking to purchase speakers, I headed to a nearby shop where I tested some Bluetooth models using my phone. Suddenly I had a hilarious idea: I would stand at a distance and play fart noises on my phone through the speaker. No one knew I was the one causing that racket. Standing 15m away on spotify I found a track called “FART SOUNDS- over 1000 farts”.I knew it must be a good stuff. Pressing play nothing happened so I moved closer assuming I was out of range. Turns out there were a 20 sec delay before the first noise. Then BOOM! Standing next directly the speaker it produced a thundering sound. Everyone looked at me. Blushing I darted out and ran home with no speakers and little dignity.
FUN SPOT
My favorite teacher
Writer. Marion kache
One time in 4th grade during recess. I was running to my friend’s home. I just so happened to kick a HUGE ROCK (keep in mind i was wearing flip-flops so it hurt like hell). Without thinking I shouted at the top of my lungs SILLY! With my awful luck my math teacher was sitting at the bench beside me. I thought he thought SILLY. He took my hand and took me inside his house what I thought he would yell at me but he couldn’t stop laughing as he sent me back outside with a candy bar. Mathematics in me just changed as he became my favorite teacher
BIRTHDAY HEARTBURN
By Ken Nderi
PATIENT: Doctor why do i get heartburn every time I attend a birthday party and eat the birthday cake?
DOCTOR: Next time remember to take off the cake candles before you eat the cake to avoid the burn.
Patient: And maybe why are candles put on top the birthday cake?
DOCTOR: Because it is hard to put them on the bottom.

Message from Rosemary Donnan
We have just returned from a very enjoyable 2 weeks in Kenya. The journey was particularly long this year as we flew with British Airways. This was to avoid the 4am flight home on Kenya airways but as we arrived at 3am on day one this was not an improvement. It took us 24 hours from hotel to home.
We always receive a very warm welcome and now after 25 years have many friends. While we there we took first aid lessons for teachers Jim took all the teachers blood pressures as high blood pressure is a silent killer and in Kenya people do not routinely check blood pressure. We were pleased to learn that the government is implementing a new scheme to improve several health care issues such as diabetes and hypertension.
We did the usual visiting of new sponsored children in their homes and erected mosquito nets. All the children leaving to go to secondary school were given a mosquito net to take with them.
As mentioned before inflation was running very high, so thanks to a kind donor, we managed to buy all the children a school uniform and many, whose sponsors sent money, got new shoes. If any sponsors want to communicate with their sponsored child they can use the school’s email account found at the top of the newsletter and the child will try to reply.
Graduation this year was very different. For the first time in 25 years it rained heavily but the children continued to sing and dance cheerfully even though they got very wet. We were both unusually impressed by the standard of singing, acting and learnt that the teachers had themselves written all the scenarios. They often conveyed messages to parents and children alike. For example one told parents to listen to their children and get off their phones and one about the dangers of drugs.
We also were very lucky to receive a visit from the County District governor who did a tour of the school and listened to a pupil playing the national anthem on a tenor recorder we had taken out. She danced with the children and fed them their graduation cake, a custom here.
Exams took place the second week so we concentrated on doing two eye clinics in very remote areas, which were very much appreciated. We also visited friends made over the years.
Just to let you know how worthwhile your sponsorship has been, I can report that one boy Harold got a first class honours in engineering and is now doing masters in Dublin. We have several girls qualified as nurses, teachers and doctors and 2 training now to be nurses and one is training to be a doctor. Many pupils come back to see us proudly telling us what skilled jobs they have managed to get. One drives a huge truck in a local mine, a very well paid job.
I will put photos of graduation on the web site in due course.
We hope to go out again in the future but I personally find the terrain very difficult now I need to use the wheelchair more frequently.
Jim and I both wish you all a very Happy Christmas and thank you for your support.
